In Greek mythology, Dedalus was a grand inventor and brilliant craftsman. He was a servant to King Minos of Crete. Minos's queen, Pasiphae, was cursed by Poseidon and fell in love with a bull. Spurned by Pasiphae's begging, Dedalus constructed a false cow "costume" so that she might satisfy her desires with the bull. Nine months later, she gave birth to the minotaur-a beast half man, half bull.
Minos, upon seeing his illegitmate son, was enraged by Dedalus' involvement in the scandal. In an attempt to win back Minos' favor, Dedalus constructed a huge maze for the minotaur to wander for the rest of its terrible life. The maze could become Minos' weapon, a sentence much-feared by his enemies--where men were imprisoned with the huge beast to wander until stumbling upon it and meeting a gruesome end.
When Dedalus completed the maze, Minos locked he and his son (Icarus) inside to be its first victims. Desperate to escape, Dedalus structured two pairs of wings from wax, string, and feathers for he and his son to flee the maze. He instructed Icarus not to fly too high, as the wings would weaken. But as the two flew over the ocean from the peril of the maze, Icarus heeded not his father's word. He flew high into the sky, and nearing the sun, his wings melted. He plummeted to a watery death as Dedalus watched, helpless. Dedalus himself flew safely to land, thus escaping his sentence.
Dedalus Films aims to mimic the inventiveness of its namesake and structure flight from things common. Using the simplest of elements, the most minimal budget, and an informed spirit of invention, Dedalus Films aims to structure films that will take flight.
